"Djembetudes" is a secondary project that came about as part of my research during "Scriabin." This djembe music is constructed from MIDI reproductions of classical keyboard music, in addition to digitized piano rolls of Ragtime. Both of these collections invite Western Classical music to come and sit down. This music can be heard at www.diggsduke,com

Despite what the portmanteau might imply, rather than attempting to fuse things together, this bonus project documents the qualities of distantly-related musics which are already shared. Of course, the same can be said about the Scriabin works. But, of course, with the Ragtime rolls, the ancient rhythm is palpable. For, we mustn't forget that the piano is a percussion instrument, a distant but direct descendant of the Balafon and other similar instruments.
